            With so many different tools out there, and so many different companies offering the same tool at drastically different prices, which one do you buy?? Here are a few tools that we at Hiller Contracting use everyday. We do A LOT of research before we buy new tools for our construction sites. I hate buying a tool only to find out that if I just spent a little more I would have bought a much better tool. I also hate over spending when another company offers a tool that is very good quality and will get the job done for years to come, and offers a much better price. Every tool that I review here, I own or have owned and used everyday. I would not direct you to tools I would not buy myself.

                                             Dewalt DW089K

         The Dewalt DW089K Self Leveling laser level is my favourite. We have used a lot of different laser on our job sites over the years, and this laser is the best for the price. Very accurate, 3 beam laser, with crosshairs below and above for a perfect plumb line. We use this a lot for installing stair railings and pickets, tile and hardwood.When you get the laser close to where you need it you can even dial the line in to get it perfect, with the dial for micro adjustments located on top. Some of the features:

  • 2x Brighter diode to increase visibility in bright job site conditions
  • Built-in magnetic pivot bracket mounts easily on metal surfaces

                                                                         Dewalt DW089LG

          If you have a bit more money to spend I would recommend the DEWALT DW089LG 12V 3 x 360 Green Beam Line Laser. Its great for so many leveling and layout applications. It is more expensive, however the three 360 degree laser lines make certain projects so much easier. This unit is used for projecting bright crossing horizontal and vertical lines. A full-time pulse mode allows use with a detector. It also has an integrated magnetic bracket with 1/4" and 5/8" thread, an over-molded housing and IP65 water/debris resistance, along with a locking Pendulum that helps t prevent damage to internal components. The 12 volt battery compatibility allow for long run times with the convenience of rechargeable power tool batteries. 

  • Three 360 degree line lasers to aid in full room layout
  • Green beam laser technology which is four times brighter than red
  • Integrated magnetic bracket allows for flush attachment to metal track and steel

                                       Bosch GLL 30

           Need something a bit more wallet friendly? The Bosch GLL 30 may be what you need to start out. I used this laser for years in my flooring and renovation business. I still use it from time to time when I need to have two or three lasers set up at the same time. It works great for all indoor applications. The laser isn't really bright enough for use outside on a sunny day however. Since it only has two cross line laser lines, its not ideal for all applications, but it did get me through many years of hardwood flooring, and its very hard to beat at this price.

                                       Fein Multimaster

       I have used every oscillating tool on the market. The Fein Multimaster is by far the absolute best tool out there. They were the first to come out with the tool and they have perfected it. Iv used this tool for years to undercut door jams, cut outlets in drywall, sand hard to reach corners and much much more. This tool can do so much more then you can imagine.Some features include:

                                                            Skilsaw SPT77WML-01 Worm Drive

         Iv only ever used a worm drive skilsaw.                              Wen 2305 Rotary Tool Kit

           Why would I recommend a small tool like this??  I view having a Rotary tool like this, as having an insurance policy.  Its definitely not something that you will probably use everyday or even every week. But in construction and especially renovations you can never plan for everything. This little tool has saved me so much time and aggravation in the past. For $25.00 its a must have in your trailer or truck.  We all know that time is money. If you need to leave the jobsite to go and buy a tool like this, you're going to lose at least an hour if not more depending how far awhile you are from  hardware store.

                         Bosch DDB181-02 18 Volt Cordless Drill

        Every contractor needs a drill. Bosch for years has been at the top with the other big companies as far as their drills are concerned. This drill is nice and light compared to many of it competition, it offers lots of power and for $100.00 with a case and two batteries, its unbeatable. Even if this drill doesn't turn out to be your drill that you use everyday, it's the best backup to have.
